Important information about seal fur and qualities:<\/strong>
Seal fur is graded into qualities A, B, C, D, E & discarded skins<\/strong>. “A” skin = top quality (very rare). “E” quality = skin with many flaws. PLEASE NOTE: All our product photos of seal fur here in the webshop are taken from C or B skins.<\/strong> Colour tones vary from skin to skin. Sizes vary from skin to skin. It is NOT the skin you see in the product photo that you are buying. Do you have specific requests for a skin? – then just write it in the comments on your order, and we will do our best to find a suitable skin – but we cannot guarantee specific requests. <\/p>\n

Quality descriptions:<\/strong> A,B,C,D,E and discarded. A-skins<\/strong> have a maximum of two flaws. B-skins<\/strong> can have up to eight flaws. C-skins<\/strong> can have several flaws, as well as one or two larger flaws. D-skins<\/strong> can have areas completely without hair or hard leather. E and discarded<\/strong> skins are typically very<\/strong> damaged skins and with discolouration, which can only be used for the production of very small items, after which the rest of the skin is completely discarded. In Great Greenland’s own production of finished goods, we primarily work with C and D qualities. <\/p>\n

Seals live in the wild, therefore “damage” often occurs naturally, which degrades the skin quality. However, this is also what makes each individual seal skin completely unique!<\/strong> The quality indications therefore tell something about the general condition of the skin. Colouring only comes into question if the natural skin is severely discoloured. Colouring thus saves the skin from being discarded, ensuring sustainable production.<\/strong> A beautiful natural skin will never be coloured if there is no need for it. <\/p>\n

Decorative or craft skin?<\/strong> Seal fur is extremely decorative. Can be used as, among other things, rugs, as cushions in chairs or sofas. Only imagination sets the limits. Seal fur behaves like other leather goods in terms of wear and maintenance. A wonderful material for crafting. <\/p>\n

All seal skins processed by Great Greenland are caught by Greenlandic Inuit hunters along the Greenlandic coast. All skins are tanned at Great Greenland’s tannery in South Greenland. All seal skins comply with EU legislation on seal skins. Only Inuit-caught seal skins are approved for sale, production and import into the EU. See more here on
