All seal skins processed by Great Greenland are caught by Greenlandic Inuit hunters along the Greenlandic coast. All skins are tanned at Great Greenland’s tannery in South Greenland. All seal skins comply with EU legislation concerning seal skins. Only Inuit-hunted seal skins are approved for sale, production, and import into the EU.

Colours: <\/strong>At Great Greenland, we primarily sell natural skins, but we also dye many skins in popular and fashionable colours. Dyeing only comes into question if the natural skin is discoloured. Dyeing thus saves the skin from being discarded, ensuring sustainable production. A beautiful natural skin will never be dyed if there is no need for it. <\/p>\n

Trousers Seal: <\/strong>A Trousers Seal is a “retired” harp seal. This means it is twice the size of regular harp seals. With age, the seal’s spots gather on its back, forming a trousers pattern. A very decorative skin – typically used as a rug.
<\/strong><\/div>\n

Seal skins from harp seals are available in several qualities: A, B, C, D, E<\/strong> and rejected. A-grade skins have a maximum of two minimal flaws. B-grade skins can have up to eight small flaws. C-grade skins can have several small flaws, as well as one to two larger flaws. D-grade skins may have smaller areas completely without hair or hard leather. E-grade and rejected skins are typically very damaged skins<\/strong>, which can only be used for the production of small items, after which the rest of the skin is completely discarded. Seals live in the wild, which is why small damages often occur, reducing the quality. However, this is also what makes each individual seal skin completely unique! The quality designations indicate how perfect the skin is.<\/p>\n
