Seal skins are extremely decorative. Can be used as, among other things, rugs, as cushions in chairs or sofas. Only imagination sets the limits. Seal skins behave like other leather goods regarding wear and maintenance.

All seal skins processed by Great Greenland are caught by Greenlandic Inuit hunters along the Greenlandic coast. All skins are tanned at Great Greenland’s tannery in South Greenland. All seal skins comply with EU legislation on seal skins. Only Inuit-caught seal skins are approved for sale, production, and import into the EU.
See more here on the EU’s official website: http://ec.europa.eu/environment/biodiversity/animal_welfare/seals/eu_seal_regime.htm

Colours: At Great Greenland, we primarily sell natural skins, but we also dye many skins in popular and fashionable colours. Dyeing only comes into consideration if the natural skin is discoloured. Dyeing thus saves the skin from being discarded, ensuring sustainable production. A beautiful natural skin will never be dyed if there is no need for it.

Trousers Seal: A Trousers Seal is a “retired” Greenland seal. This means it is twice as large as regular Greenland seals. With age, the seal’s spots gather on its back, forming a trousers pattern. A very decorative skin – typically used as a rug.

NOTE: All our skin images are taken by C skind.
The skins are all unique and can therefore vary in size and colour nuances.

Timeless design &
responsible production

The story of sealskin is also the story of Greenland’s people; the Inuit. It is the story of a people living in harmony with nature. In modern Greenlandic society, the seal is still an important part of life and culture. Great Greenland has established a visitor centre to provide information about the seal and its uses. Visitors will understand the seal’s importance to the Greenlandic population through exhibitions and by visiting a living workshop.
