Seal skins are extremely decorative. They can be used as, among other things, rugs, or as cushions in chairs or sofas. Only imagination sets the limits. Seal skins behave like other leather goods regarding wear and tear and maintenance.

All seal skins processed by Great Greenland are caught by Greenlandic Inuit hunters along the coast of Greenland. All skins are tanned at Great Greenland’s tannery in South Greenland. All seal skins comply with EU legislation regarding seal skins. Only Inuit-hunted seal skins are approved for sale, production, and import into the EU.

Colours: At Great Greenland, we primarily sell natural skins, but we also dye many skins in popular and fashionable colours. Dyeing only occurs if the natural skin is discoloured. Dyeing thus saves the skin from being discarded, ensuring sustainable production. A beautiful natural skin will never be dyed if there is no need for it.

‘Trouser’ Seal: A ‘Trouser’ Seal is a “retired” Greenland seal (Harp Seal). This means it is twice as large as regular Greenland seals. With age, the seal’s spots gather on its back and form a trouser pattern. A very decorative skin – typically used as a rug.
